| Great software if you don't
need any 2D design editing capabilities. It is elegant, very easy to
use, constant 3D imaging, nice lighting, shadow and reflection
features, and very high-quality rendering of the final image. Images
can be saved as bmp, gif, jpg or png (with or without transparency).
Besides this stand-alone version, there is now also a
plugin version for
Adobe Photoshop ($39.99). |

|
| A nice, easy-to-use package complete with
rotation, lighting and reflection features, all the while showing a 3D

allowing the creation of vista-style boxes. No 2D editing or templates.
Final images are of excellent quality and can be

set of preset box/book/CD images and presto... your box is complete.
If you like the preset styles, it's the way to go. The presets include
shadows/reflections that can be adjusted. There is also no 2D editing capabilities. Images can
be saved as bmp, gif, jpg, png or tiff. |

Just BoxShots - $29.95 by Lincoln Beach
Software
|
| The strength of this package is it's 2D
editing capability which allows you to place any number of images,
lines and text onto the box face and side and maintain them as
separate editable objects. It allows for the creation of nice boxshots
without the use of any other software. The main drawback is that you
can only create standard 2-sided boxes with no shadow or reflection.
Images can be saved as bmp, jpg, gif, pcx or png. |

3D Box Shot - $29.95 by Jellypie Software Ltd.
|
| No 2D editing, no shadows or reflections, just a
straight-forward, easy-to-use product that allows you to load in your
2D box faces, rotate the box any way you want and produce a good
quality image, though it can only be saved in bmp format. The latest
version has a unique video-making feature as well! |

3D Box Shot Maker - Freeware by BossEye
|
| An easy to use product allowing the
creation of 2-sided boxshots with shadows and/or reflections. The big
drawback is the poor output quality of the final image. Images can be
saved as bmp, jpg, png or gif. There is no 2D editing capabilities. |

Cover Factory - $39.95 by Answers 2000
Ltd.
|
| This package has all the features,
rotation, shadows, reflections, light angles and even a few extras
like lens flaring. However, it seems designed more for making book
covers and it's final output quality is not as good as the other
packages we tested. Images can be saved as jpg, bmp, pcx, png.
Good choice if you are designing mainly E-Book covers. |

eCover 3D - $97 by eCover3D
|
| Probably the most powerful package of the
bunch. Has every feature you can image including a lot of ready-to-use
templates. You need to switch back and forth between the 2D editor and
the 3D view (and even need to save your work before switching). The 2D
editor is of the not-to-useful 'paint' variety, and the package's
biggest drawback is a bit of a clumsy interface. Images can be saved
as bmp, jpg, png or gif. |
